Add the AwesomeVideo MCP server to Cursor
Connect Cursor to the AwesomeVideo MCP server with a few lines of mcp.json, using an API key header or OAuth, and caption videos from the agent.
Tested November 3, 2026: The same Streamable HTTP config (URL plus Authorization header) connected with the official MCP TypeScript SDK and listed 27 tools. Dynamic client registration accepts Cursor's desktop and web callback URLs.
With an API key
Create ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project, or .cursor/mcp.json for one project. Cursor fills ${env:AV_KEY} from your environment.
- 1
Put your key in the environment, for example in your shell profile.
export AV_KEY=av_live_... - 2
Add the server to mcp.json.
{ "mcpServers": { "awesomevideo": { "url": "https://api.awesomevideoeditor.com/mcp", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${env:AV_KEY}" } } } } - 3
Open Customize, check that awesomevideo is on and lists its tools. Ask the agent to caption a video.
With OAuth (no key in the file)
- 1
Use the OAuth URL with no headers.
{ "mcpServers": { "awesomevideo": { "url": "https://api.awesomevideoeditor.com/mcp/oauth" } } } - 2
Cursor reads the server's protected resource metadata, registers itself and opens the sign-in. Sign in with the account that holds your credits.
Good to know
- Cursor asks before it runs an MCP tool. caption_video spends credits; estimate and style_preview are free.
- If the server does not connect, open the Output panel and pick MCP Logs.
- Captioning costs 5 credits per minute (1 credit = 1 cent). estimate and previews are free; failed jobs are refunded.
Try it
- Create an AwesomeVideo key for me and tell me the balance.
- Show me free style previews of karaoke and hormozi-style on https://example.com/talk.mp4.
- Caption https://example.com/talk.mp4 with the pop-words preset for TikTok and give me the MP4 and SRT.
Steps checked against the official docs on November 3, 2026: Cursor docs: Model Context Protocol. Client menus change; if a label moved, the URL and auth choice stay the same.
